Umbrella in the Snow

Some good news to end a rather dreary week, and to perk up a year that has so far been characterised only by no serious writing and a social media/personal burn-out!

My short story UMBRELLA IN THE SNOW has been published by ITCH MAGAZINE.

Umbrella in the Snow

Still perfectly elegant after all these years, she never leaves home without it.

"It’ll protect you," her daddy said, "when I can’t."

"I'll treasure it forever, Daddy."

The earnest echo of her six-year-old self curves a smile ... read the rest of the story here

I'd also recommend that you read the other works in this on-line periodical recently adopted by the University of Witwatersrand School of Literature, Language and Media.

My favourite story from this e-11 issue called MANIFESTOS is GREY HIGHWAY by Rudi Benade

Be sure to pop on over and enjoy a feast of many other articles, stories, poetry and artwork that are sure to speak to everyone.

Hi Judy .. congratulations on having the story published. Interesting about the periodical being adopted by Wits School of Literature, Language and Media - must be so useful being able to interact with them.

I hope your winter gives you some encouragement to write - but the freezing Johannesburg winters are a bit much at times.

Cheers Hilary

Congratulations. Good to see you.
I'll join you in the social media personal burn-out camp. It's been a long year.

LISA: I’m sure it felt like a blast from the past! I’m glad to be back & Hope you enjoyed the story.

HILARY: Yes, indeed, having a story published by a magazine affliated with the prestigious University of the Witwatersrand did give me a thrill! I’m planning to escape the bitter Highveld cold by descending into a hibernation burrow and hope to come out in spring with the first draft of a new manuscript! Enjoy your spring!!

ALLY: Thanks so much! :)

ANNE: I’ve been under the radar but I’ve noticed how busy you’ve been – a lot on your plate, no wonder you’re also feeling frazzled! A lot of people I talk to these days are feeling charred around the edges! :)

ELLIOT: Thanks for the kind words – every time I see one of my stories “out there” I get a kick! I think it’s the same for every writer. Off to scratch in your patch and check out the award – kind of you! :)
