Can you live in the present?

In today’s busy world, how often do we attempt to juggle the different activities — our jobs, our families, our personal goals — in our lives?

If your life is anything like mine, I’m constantly manipulating my time. I steal a moment here to tackle that load of dirty washing or a moment there to do some writing, all the while trying to keep a sense of balance and order in my life.

Often I’m overwhelmed by a feeling of being fractured by all the demands placed on me.

“Stop!” I want to yell (and sometimes do!) “I’m only one person!”...read the rest of my guest blog post "Moment to Moment" over at blogging friend Lana's blog "Tabouleh".

I'd love to have you come and join the chat!

Hi Judy .. now is the time for deep breaths and let the peace wash over you as you spend time with your father .. these are precious moments. Be prepared was and is my motto when I go to visit my mother .. particularly so in the early days .. have things to discuss - general items of interest and let your conversation wander along the paths it may lead, knowing you have other points to start a different one if the mind is weak or becomes disinterested. Parents are essentials to life .. their time is precious now ...

Release the fracture .. enjoy his serenity now ... with many thoughts - Hilary

There are certainly days when I feel that way but I've learnt to prioritise things so that I don't get overwhelmed by it all.

I visited Lana's blog, Judy, and read your wonderful words. Thanks.

Too true, Judy, half the time I wish there were 3 of me. I think the biggest problem is when numerous people in your life each demand 100% of your time/commitment. Not always easy to say 'No' but I'm learning

...this post coming during an evening when all I achieved was driving kids from one event to the next...going miles on end and getting nowhere fast!

Apparently I'm not alone ;)

Oh, Judy...I feel overwhelmed like that all the time, too. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this, and hang in there ;).

HILARY: You make a good point, my Dad *is* serene at the moment; we need to embrace that serenity as well. This past year has been such a good learning curve for me in that I’ve been forced to learn how to just go with the flow…

KIRU: I live by prioritising things on to-do lists, but some days (this year, most days!) I find so much happens that it’s easier to toss the lists out the window and just deal with what happens! (Although the lists do help to stop things popping unexpectedly up to bite me in the behind!)

ELISABETH: thanks for your visit and the inspiring quote by AS Byatt!

CLAIRE: Only 3 of you? Joking! :) And, yes, if I could say “no” more often, I’d be able to stay a balanced a whole lot more. But when the person asking is one you love…no is the hardest word in the language!

ELLIOT: Nope, never alone. Taxi days are the worst – so much time wasted in the car, yet so essential to be with the kids (or parents)

MARILYN: You hang in there too…!! :)

@OCEANGIRL: Yes, TM is a valuable skill. I'm good at the planning part of it, but stumble at the implementation part! :(

BISH: Glad the article made sense to you. :)
