Today is the tenth year of Mimi Lennox's BlogBlast For Peace aka Blog4Peace.
Around the world, we speak Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant us Peace).
In celebration of this annual peace festival, here is a poem I wrote called "The Age of Peace" ©
"The Age of Peace" © by Judy Croome
When future archaeologists
When future archaeologists
dig amongst the ruins
of our ordinary
lives,
there’ll be no
hieroglyphics of
heroic deeds
or painted icons of
patron saints
found in 21st
century debris.
The only saints and
heroes
of our century
are the ordinary people,
you and me,
learning how to live
together,
struggling across
the abyss of our
differences,
to discover all we
want
is to live in
peace.
This poem is an extract from my latest poetry volume "a stranger in a strange land" - there are more peace poems throughout the book.

Hi Judy - what a great poem ... so true - it's the ordinary people who will bring the peace. We all want peace - that is so true ... peace at home, peace in the neighbourhood, in our own country, and across the world ... bringing hope to many.
I'll include this in my next blog post ... cheers and thanks for this post - so important to remember ... with thoughts and peace - Hilary
Hi Hilary - yes, "peace in our time" - but so elusive! The best we can aim for is to find that inner peace & hope it spreads ever wider into the external world. Thanks for including it into your blog!
Take care
Judy
Wonderful poem. I hope it's true, that ordinary people prevail upon the proud posturing politicians and evil nutcases bringing misery to millions in the name of a creed that no civilised person recognises. What a wonderful, uplifting, idea!
Glad you enjoyed the poem Mike! And yes, what a wonderful idea - that the voice of the ordinary people can and will prevail over politics and ideological hatred.
Nice poem. I've often wondered what archaeologists would think of our society if all know documentation were lost.
Glad you enjoyed the poem Jeffrey! Sometimes when I look at our society's and wonder about future archaeologists finding things I get embarrased and ashamed at some of the things they might find!! :)
